This service is a compassionate approach to counselling that includes psychotherapy intervention

I operate from a humanistic perspective, which means that I view people holistically. Feelings, Needs, meanings, beliefs, thinking, behaviour, unconscious and instinctive process, relationships, spirituality and life activities are considered as contributing to the individual in this approach.

I view all people as constantly growing and developing as a result of learning and experience. As a result of these experiences we develop beliefs and strategies about the world and people in it, but more importantly we also develop beliefs about ourselves that can make us happy and fulfilled or unhappy with low self-esteem.

Personal development is a big part of counselling. Getting to know your self better and understand how we have become who we are is a good way to ironing out those creased in life and find ways of improving the way we feel. When I work with students personal development will be the main focus however this will mean that some issues may be visited are unexpected, sometimes sad but always enlightening.

I believe that a client should feel better leaving the counselling session than when they entered it. That is the purpose of something therapeutic. If an individual has visited some upsetting memories during the session then a relaxation and guided imagery will be used to alter your present immediate feelings followed by a debriefing. If the individual is already feeling very negative before the session then I will perform this before the session starts so that the individual does not sink deeper into a depression and can think in a more objective state.

This is because the human mind is like a pattern matching machine. If you feel negative then it is more likely that you will recall sad thoughts or think negatively.  The relaxation and guided imagery is used to induce a positive state. I have developed this approach as a result of experience and fell it is important.

I will give you an initial consultation over the phone where your details and requirements will be taken so that I can get some idea of appropriate therapeutic interventions.

I will normally offer an initial three to five sessions after which we will review whether therapy is working for you.

I will offer discounts to those who have difficulty paying for this service.
